First Aid

As all balisongers will attest to, cuts are inevitable when learning balisong manipulation. The following is a list of popular first aid products among balisongers. For first aid treatment of cuts and scrapes, you may also visit this page at the Mayo Clinic for more information.

  1. Neosporin: An antibiotic ointment that is placed on cuts to help facilitate healing. Generally this will be put on a cut and then covered with a bandage.
  2. Liquid Bandage: A recent offering from Band-Aid, liquid bandage is applied over cuts to stop minor bleeding, reduce minor pain and promote fast healing. It creates a "clear, flexible, breathable seal" over the cut to prevent the cut from reopening and also to prevent bacteria from getting in.
  3. Superglue (Cyanoacrylate): Superglue has been used by many to close up cuts and prevent it from reopening and causing further damage or scarring. It does work in a pinch, but medical grade cyanoacrylate may be a better choice.
  4. Medical Grade Superglue (Cyanoacrylate): Medical grade superglue is the same as regular superglue but is packaged in a sterile environment so it is obviously a better choice (than regular superglue) for use on cuts.
  5. Tetanus shot: Tetanus is a disease that can result from even minor cuts and/or wounds. It is a bacterial infection that leads to stiffness of the jaw and other muscles and may cause severe muscle spasms. Tetanus can be life-threatening if not treated properly.
